Students first take part in a series of classroom lessons where they learn about working in and being consumers in today’s world. That’s why we created JA BizTown®, an engaging, hands-on program that introduces 4th, 5th, and 6th graders to economic concepts, workplace skills, and personal and business finances in a student-sized town built just for them. See below for more information on alignment with national and state standards.Connecting the dots between what kids learn in school and how it’s applied in the real world isn’t that simple. JA Learning Experiences support national and state standards in reading, mathematics, social studies, and work and career readiness. It includes 12 teacher-led sessions prior to the simulation and 1 session following the simulation, with a culminating 4–5 hour visit to a hands-on simulated community or a virtual simulation. The learning experience is a JA Capstone program and is available for classroom-based, self- guided, or remote classroom implementation. This popular learning experience allows elementary school students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote for mayor. JA BizTown combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a simulated town.
